Verano del 63. Historia de amor entre dos jóvenes vaqueros que se conocen haciendo cola para conseguir un trabajo. Los dos quieren casarse y formar una familia. Cuando son enviados a cuidar el ganado en las montañas de Brokeback surge entre ellos un sentimiento de camaradería que acaba en una relación íntima. Acaba el verano y al regresar ambos deben seguir con sus vidas.
